The master of ceremonies was Peter Trippi, member of the GFAA Executive Committee, and Judge Emeritus. Trippi is editor-in-chief of <em>Fine Art Connoisseur<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\n<p>GFAA Judges selected 13 Winners \u2013 one in each of the following award categories: Contemporary and Post-War- solo artist; Contemporary and Post-War- group or theme; Impressionist and Modern- solo artist; Impressionist and Modern- group or theme; Renaissance, Baroque, Old Masters and Dynasties- solo artist; Renaissance, Baroque, Old Masters and Dynasties- group or theme; Ancient Art; Photography; Design; Fringe; Public Art, and the new awards that premiered\u00a0 \u2013 Global Planet and Global Humanity. Youniversal, and YOU-2 are the two final awards, are given to the most <em>popular<\/em> nominees, and are selected by public voting on the GFAA website and social media.<\/p>\n<p>The GFAA program highlights the link between artists and their creations, the galleries that represent them, curated shows from the gallery, public art and museum worlds. Eleven galleries exhibiting at the Armory Show, a cultural collaborator of GFAA, represented more than fifteen 2017 GFAA Nominees including: Yayoi Kusama, Kerry James Marshall, Andy Goldsworthy, Jaume Plensa, Ana Mendieta, Wifredo Lam, Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso, Irving Penn, Ai Weiwei and William Eggleston.<\/p>\n<p>The events were attended by over 200 guests, including fifty VIPs, representing more than thirty Nominees included Shirin Neshat, Winner of the premier Global Humanity Award, accompanied by her family and Miciah Hussey and Caroline Luce, representatives from the Gladstone Gallery; Galerie Lelong &amp; Co. Director Mary Sabbatino, proxy for three nominated artists represented by the gallery \u2013\u00a0 Winner Andy Goldsworthy for the first Global Planet Award; past GFAA Winner for Public Art (2015) and 2017 Global Humanity Award Nominee Jaume Plensa, and the late Ana Mendieta, also nominated for Global Humanity for her lifetime of work. Sabbatino was accompanied by Raquel Cecilia Mendieta, niece and film archivist of Ana Mendieta.<\/p>\n<p>Jay Levenson, Director of the International Program at The Museum of Modern Art also attended with MoMA\u2019s winning exhibition co-curator Jennifer Gray, for GFAA Best Design 2017, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moma.org\/calendar\/exhibitions\/1660\">Frank Lloyd Wright at 150: Unpacking the Archive <\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Melissa Chiu,\u00a0director of the Smithsonian\u2019s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, accepted the Award for\u00a0\u00a0<em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/hirshhorn.si.edu\/kusama\/the-exhibition\/\">Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors.<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Slater B. Bradley, Nominated for Best Public Art Award for his Venice Biennale collateral installation <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em><a style=\"color: #800080;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.e-flux.com\/announcements\/128771\/slater-b-bradleysundoor-at-world-s-end\/\">Slater B. Bradley: Sundoor at World\u2019s End<\/a><\/em>,<\/span> attended with Chloe Sevigny.\u00a0Bradley has been featured in solo exhibitions at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York (2000), the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York (2005), among many others.<\/p>\n<p><em>Farideh Lashai: When I Count, There Are Only You&#8230; But When I Look, There Is Only a Shadow, <\/em>from the Museo Nacional Del Prado, in collaboration with the British Museum, received Honorable Mention for GFAA\u2019s Fringe Award.\u00a0 Traveling from Madrid to receive the Award, was curator <em>Ana Mart\u00ednez<\/em>\u00a0de Aguilar.\u00a0 The late artist\u2019s daughter, Maneli Keykavoussi, head of the\u00a0<em>Farideh Lashai<\/em>\u00a0Foundation, Edward Tyler Nahem gallerists Paloma Martin Llopis and Gallerist Leila Heller were also in attendance, honoring Lashai\u2019s last work.<\/p>\n<p>Additional Nominees at the event included Museum Director and curator Erlend Hoyersten and curator Jacob Vengberg Sevel, Winners of Best Public Art Award for the Triennial THE GARDEN \u2013 End of Times; Beginning of Times, at ARos Aarhus Kunstmuseum; The Metropolitan Museum of Art\u2019s Winners Dr. Maxwell (Mike) K. Hearn, Douglas Dillon Chairman of Asian Art, and Dr. Jason Sun, Brooke Russell Astor Curator of Chinese Art- for <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/exhibitions\/listings\/2017\/age-of-empires\">Age of Empires: Chinese Art of the Qin and Han Dynasties (221 B.C-A.D 220) <\/a>;<\/em><\/span> Getty Museum Winners, Co-Curators Dr. Kristen Collins and Dr. Kenneth Lapatin for their exhibition <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.getty.edu\/art\/exhibitions\/antiquity_manuscripts\/index.html\"><em>Remembering Antiquity: The Ancient World through Medieval Eyes<\/em> <\/a><\/span>; April Moorhouse, Head of Membership &amp; Programmes, Royal Academy America accepted two awards on behalf of the Museum &#8211; <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.royalacademy.org.uk\/exhibition\/revolution-russian-art\"><em>Revolution: Russian Art 1917-1932<\/em> <\/a><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Abstract Expressionism.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Many other Nominees and Award Winners attended the ceremony including Lisa Ziviello, Director of Marketing from the International Center of Photography (ICP), whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icp.org\/exhibitions\/perpetual-revolution-the-image-and-social-change\"><em>Perpetual Revolution: The Image and Social Change<\/em> <\/a>exhibition won for Best Photography Award; Asia Society\u2019s Shayne Doty, Managing Director for Philanthropy, Nominated for <em>Secrets of the Sea: A Tang Shipwreck and Early Trade in Asia<\/em>; Winner Dr. Catherine Whistler, Curator from the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford University for <em>Raphael: The Drawings<\/em>; Diane Tuft, Nominated photographer for the show <em>Arctic Melt<\/em>, with gallerists from Marlborough Gallery in New York; Tamara Chalabi and Paolo Columbo, Ruya Foundation\u2019s Directors and Co-Curators of the Iraq Pavilion from the Venice Biennale which was a Finalist for the Best Public Art Award; London-based Global Humanity Nominee Baiqu Gonkar, Director and Curator of <em>Art Represent<\/em>, who was also a Panelist earlier in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>Kris Callens, Director of the Fries Museum (Netherlands), which organized the Lawrence Alma-Tadema exhibition seen at three museums across Europe- which received Honorable Mention for the Youniversal Award, and Winner of YOU-2, the two public Awards. Amalia Cosmetatou,\u00a0Executive Director and Director of Cultural Affairs and\u00a0Roberta Casagrande-Kim,\u00a0Assistant Manager of Exhibitions and Publications of the Onassis Foundation USA, representing nominated exhibition<em>\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/onassisusa.org\/exhibitions\/a-world-of-emotions\"><em>A World of Emotions: Ancient Greece, 700 BC \u2013 200 AD<\/em><\/a>\u00a0, were honored by the presence of a number of colleagues.
