All of the awards, exemplified by the two awards launched in 2017 (Global Planet and Global Humanity), spotlight the best works produced every year voicing the connection of art to society\u2019s pressing issues.<\/p>\n<p>This year, in sync with the ongoing concerns of the coronavirus, GFAA emphasizes for the second year the indelible impact on the cultural and world stage, through the second edition of <em>Best Digital Exhibition or Online Educational Program. <\/em>Institutions are evolving through innovation in astonishing ways to connect with their audiences remotely and to keep their relevancy in society.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the cancellations and rescheduling of so many exhibitions, the judges and senior advisory board members decided to recognize a limited number of award categories this year.<\/p>\n<p>As always, geographic, scale, ethnic and gender diversity are critical in the GFAA research and nominee selection:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>22% of this year\u2019s Nominees are <em>in or about <\/em>the art and artists of Asia, Africa and the Middle East<\/li>\n<li>Over 30% of the Nominees are women<\/li>\n<li>Less than 20% of the GFAA Nominees are exhibitions created by or about European or North American white males<\/li>\n<li>Less than half of the GFAA Nominees exhibited in the top 100 art museums visited in the world 44% (<em>The Art Newspaper, <\/em>April 2017), whereas the majority emanate from smaller institutions and other venues &#8211; 56%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The GFAA Judges will ultimately select five winners \u2013 one in each of the following award categories: Fringe, Public Art, Global Planet, Global Humanity and Digital.
