On Wednesday, December 6, 2017, LOUIS Xlll and the Global Fine Art Awards (GFAA) celebrated art and culture at the SLS Hotel’s exclusive Saam’s Lounge.  Hosted by GFAA partner LOUIS Xlll, the event was presided over by LOUIS Xlll executives Valerie Loh, Senior VP Americas, Senior Ambassador Victor Blanquart, and Vice President Steele Cooper. GFAA Founder and President, Judy Holm and GFAA Nominating Committee Chair, Betsie Piussan welcomed Nominees and guests, who were all in town to attend Art Basel Miami Beach. Several 2017 GFAA Nominees attended, including Andrew Perchuk, Deputy Director of the Getty Research Institute; Raquel Cecilia Mendieta, niece and film archivist of Nominated artist Ana Mendieta for the premier GFAA Global Humanity award; Munich-based curators Sam Bardouil and Till Fellrath, whose exhibition Art et Liberté: Rupture, War and Surrealism in Egypt premiered at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and concludes at the Tate Liverpool. The event honored the 19 artists and the galleries who represent them exhibiting at Art Basel Miami Beach this year: Yayoi Kusama, Andy Goldsworthy, David Hockney, Tomas Saraceno, Jaume Plensa, Ana Mendieta, Philip Guston, Marisa Merz, Lygia Clark, Wifredo Lam, Richard Diebenkorn, Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso, Diego Rivera, Jean Arp, Henri Matisse, Henri Cartier Bresson, Irving Penn and William Eggleston. A perfect pairing for art, LOUIS XIII is synonymous with culture and refinement the world over. Since its creation in 1874, it has been part of many of the most significant events- it was exhibited at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900 and soon established itself as a symbol of French taste and sophistication. LOUIS XIII Cognac is an exquisite blend of up to 1,200 grapes eaux-de-vie sourced 100% from Grande Champagne, the first cru of the Cognac region. In addition to enjoying champagne, hors d’oeuvres prepared by The Bazaar, the world-renowned restaurant by the James Beard award-winning Chef José Andrés and the private LOUIS Xlll experience tasting, guests learned more about the Global Fine Art Awards program, and all are invited to attend the black-tie Award Ceremony and Gala taking place on March 8, 2018 in New York City (globalfineartawards.org for tickets). The 4th Annual GFAA Gala will celebrate all 85 Nominees and announce the 15 award winners, in collaboration with The Armory Show. Our event was covered by Miami's premier photography company, World Red Eye, who generously provided a preferred partner rate.
